Case Study: Coaching for Performance Management

Challenge: Employee who was on a performance management plan due to complaints about intimidation and bullying.

Solution: Challenge Coaching Program

Outcome: A clear understanding of why these behaviours were taking place, a clear strategy for addressing them, significant improvements to workplace behaviours and improvement to quality of life for the employee.

In this circumstance, complaints had been that this person was bullying and intimidating others as they were always yelling at colleagues and their stance was physically intimating during face to face interactions.

With an understanding of what the problematic behaviours were, our coach worked with the learner to identify the motivators behind these behaviours. As it turned out, they had hearing loss as a result of their role working in heavy industries. As a result, they often stood close to others in an effort to hear them properly. They shouted because they were unaware of the volume of their voice.

By working through this challenge with an FMI coach, the participant was able to increase his self awareness about the situation, develop a plan of action for addressing his hearing loss, communicate clearly with his colleagues about his regarding his behaviour past and resent and to improve his relationship with his peers.

As an outcome, the participant was able to address a personal issue and is now thriving in his role. His colleagues enjoy his company and no longer find him intimidating.

This is a great example of working through a challenging situation to achieve a better outcome.
