Workplace Application Projects

Workplace application projects are self-directed and require participants to identify opportunities, issues, tasks and problems and take the initiative to address them in a timely and cost effective way.

FMI’s Workplace Application Projects give team members a framework for embedding new knowledge and skills learnt during training and coaching sessions and programs. The projects enable them to focus their efforts on specific changes they want to make to their work which gives them a clear sense of direction and intention with their professional development.

The projects also provide a framework for measuring performance improvement which provides valuable information for team members and their organisation about the impact of changes.

In addition the projects include a formalised review and feedback process with an Adviser which helps to overcome road blocks and ensure projects are focused on areas that drive results that are relevant to the organisation and in line with the manager’s role.

5 phase process for workplace application projects

  1. Draft overview: Identify a project that addresses an opportunity, issue or problem affecting performance and effectiveness within the workplace and that you, can initiate that will make a significant improvement. Discuss the draft overview with an Adviser and make changes as appropriate.

  2. Plan: Prepare a draft plan to address these issues and make a positive improvement. The project plan must include schedule, stakeholders, communication strategy and risk management and all other criteria as set out in this Project Guide. Discuss the plan with an Adviser and make changes as appropriate.

  3. Implement and review progress: Implement the action plan and record what has been achieved. Identify any issues or problems during the implementation and take corrective action. Review your progress with an Adviser.

  4. Evaluate: Review the outcomes of the project including benefits to all stakeholders. Review outcomes with an Adviser.

  5. Present project to a Strategic Review Panel (optional): Give a formal presentation on the outcomes of the project to a Strategic Review Panel.
